Why do People Migrate?

    Today in class we discussed things that would drive someone to or from a country (push/pull factors) and got our information from the World FactBook. We looked at the total fertility rate of countries (average number of babies). For a population to remain the same, the TFR must be 2.1. If it is greater than this number, the population increases; if it is less than this number, the population decreases. The world TFR is 2.42, meaning our world population is increasing. However, TFR only accounts for infants, and disregards things like immigration. Nigeria's TFR is 6.89 showing how the developing country is increasing and that the average woman has about 6 kids. We also looked at other things on the FactBook like the U.S. population (which is 326, 625, 791). We also looked at other things like obesity rate in France, the U.S., and Japan.     Today in class we talked about Germanic Kingdoms and Christianity power. Some of my notes are below. First Experiences at John Carroll

    My first few days at John Carroll have been a mix between nerve wracking and exciting. On orientation day, I was very excited to meet my teachers and get a feel for the school. Everything was calm and everyone was feeling the same amount of anxiety. I don't know a lot of people, so it was nice meeting and talking to different people from different schools. Walking into a classroom full of students and teachers was a bit overwhelming at first. I am so used to knowing almost everyone in my classes. On the first day, when I was walking in, it was a little scary seeing everyone including the upperclassmen there. After seeing this, it finally hit me that I was in high school. Going throughout my day, I figured out how much different high school is from middle school and that this was going to be a big adjustment.
