Kiva.org Extra Credit

    Kiva.org is a website where people who need money for a certain cause can ask for a loan and people can visit the website and potentially loan some of their money. There are about 2.6 million borrowers and about 1.7 million lenders. This foundation is pretty popular considering those numbers. There are over 1 billion funds through Kiva. This is a crazy amount of money, and this organization really helps those who sign up. Kiva has the people in need of the loan post a description of their situation, how much money they need, a picture, and how long the people loaning have to help them. Seeing these descriptions and the pictures really helps determine which person is the best to donate to based on how much they need the money. For example, some people need the money for extra things like toilets, better utilities for jobs, etc. Then there is the people that need the money to buy something to help them support their family or to help make a living.

    One person on this website in need of a loan is a woman named Kyi. She lives in Myanmar, Burma and needs the loan for her farm and animal pens. She is working with her neighbors Soe, Sein, Hla, and Dae. Kyi needs this loan because she needs money; her husband is elsewhere getting money to help them survive and keep their farm going. Kyi and her neighbors need to borrow because they live in a country where poverty is common and live on the poverty line. They want some different sources of income to improve their qualities of life.

    Another person in need of a loan is a woman named Hekima who works in a business that sells secondhand shoes in a town market. She wants to continue to sell shoes to her customers, and wants the money to buy twenty pairs of shoes to disperse. She has a family of her own, and plans to educate them after she is finished helping her community. She lives in Congo, and continues her business due to Congo's unstable market. This is why she is borrowing.

    This website shows a lot of the poverty going on in our world currently, but makes it very easy for anyone to help. With the press of a button, you can help someone in need across the world. It allows for an easier way to donate, which could potentially attract more people to make a contribution, helping the people even more. I find this as a very effective way to communicate to the world the problems they ,ay not know of, and motivate them to help.

    Today in class we worked on questions from the textbook. Non-Test Day

    Today in class we were supposed to take our Renaissance and Reformation test. Our class, however, voted to not take it. A lot of kids did not want to take a chance in hurting their grade, including me, It has taken me a very long time to get my grade up, so anything I can do to keep it where it is or get it higher I will do. I was a little uncomfortable with being tested on the i formations since we only took 2 days to talk about it and we crammed so much of the reformation in to one day. We "took" the test, but it didn't count. I didn't know a lot of the answers on the test because we never talked about them. I don't know when we would have, so if the test counted, I would have gotten those answers wrong and gotten a bad grade.
