More Exam Preparation

Today in class we reviewed the blog with the material that will be included on the exam. We covered the terms from earlier in the year, and discussed the demographic transition graphs again because some people were still confused. We also talked about the written response, and other test questions. I am nervous for the exam, but I know I will prepare to the best of my ability and hopefully I will get an A. There are a lot of terms we have gone over so far this year, so I will need to go back and make sure I know the meaning of those. The idea of exams is very stressful, especially since I have not yet gone through it. It will be a new and different experience. But as son as they are over, it is time for Christmas break. We are off a total of 17 days! I am very excited to relax and not stress about school for 17 days. It will be a nice break.

Exam Preparation

Today in class Mr. Schick was out so we took some time to begin to prepare for our exam. Many of the important terms were posted to the blog and I included all of them in my quizlet to help me study. I will also add some questions from previous tests and quizzes. I will then have one big quizlet filled with everything I need to know besides the written responses. I will begin to outline them and decide what material I will be writing about. Today's class was chill, and I am glad I got some time to get myself together and to get my study tools together. I feel a little bit more in control since  I was beginning to get very stressed. I got to review some of the terms I had not heard for awhile, and I somewhat studied and reviewed them when I added them to my quizlet.

Exam Discussion

Today in class we got a hard copy of the pop quiz questions to look over and study for our unit test on Monday. The test will be on population pyramids, demographic translations graphs, migration, population, etc. We talked about a possible stage 6 on the demographic translation graph. This stage would consist of a high birth rate and low death rate resulting in a booming population. A cause of this increase in birth rate could be the want to be a world denomination. People would have more kids to become more powerful as a nation. We also went over the exam. We talked about what it covers, how many questions, and how many written responses. The material on our test before the exam will also be covered on the exam. There will be no essay questions on the test on Monday. As for the exam, there will be two which we will find out later when we receive our review packets for our exam on Wednesday, a week from now.

Pop Quiz

Today in class we took a pop quiz on the Hans Rosling video and the demographic transitions graph. The quiz had 10 questions and I know I got 7 right. I'm not very happy about this grade, but I tried my best and the questions were a little difficult. It brought my 100 in the class down tom a 97. After taking the quiz and going over the questions, we discussed the graph. I needed a refresher on how the graph and stages worked. I had gotten the stages confused on the quiz. The first stage marks a country with a high birth rate and high death rate, therefore there is a small rate of natural increase. Stage two has a hight birth rate, but a rapidly falling death rate, causing a rapid incline in the rate of increase. The U.S. was in stage one in 1776, before they were a developed country. We also discussed the exam today. There is going to be 100 questions, and 2 essays. The questions will date all the way back to our first unit when we discussed excellence and Socrates. We will be

Demographic Transition Graph

Image
Today in class we learned about and analyzed a Demographic Transition Graph. The graph shows lines that represent the total population and its transition of birth and death rates. There are 4 different stages: High stationary, early expanding, late expanding, low stationary, and declining. There are two lines representing the birth rate and the other representing the death rate; the area in between represents the area of natural increase. For example, Brazil has a falling birth rate and a slowly falling death rate. Because of this, the natural increase slows down. Also, there is a reason for the birth rate slowing down, as in Brazil, it is due to improved medical care and diet, therefore there are fewer children needed. Also, their death rate slowed down due to improved sanitation, medical care, and water supply. Fewer children die. Brazil is a late expanding country, which is the third stage. When the birth rate line on the graph dips under the death rate line, the result is natur
